Having lived in Barry all our lives, we found ourselves living, breathing and experiencing Barry from the end of its most successful period to today, which in our opinion "is on the up". It is only natural for those that experienced Barry Island in the 60's to 80's with its huge boom of tourism to feel slightly deflated with its time after that. We’ve witnessed Barry get put down time after time, and got subsequently bored of people saying Barry ‘isn’t what it used to be’.

We used the fact that we witnessed such a popular and successful time in Barry to motivate ourselves to create a positive "feel good" brand about the town which we love.

Barry has made us who we are, the memories we've made and shared. We're proud we are from Barry. People need to see and appreciate what we got, rather than focusing on what we had, we have some of the most beautiful views in not just the Vale but Wales and Britain! So creating the tongue-in-cheek brand 'Barrybados' which is implying that Barry has everything Barbados has to offer was our way of hopefully creating some fun but also positivity about the town and it's beautiful beaches!”

During the creation of the 'Barrybados' brand we’ve seen the regeneration of the Island from the start, with new beach huts, the pleasure park sold and bought by amusement park expert Henry Danter. When we started off with Barrybados, it was literally an idea and we’d never thought we’d create nearly enough 50 different products!

We’re grateful of all the support we’ve had on Journey, whether this be from the Council, funding from UTLD, local business, local celebrities, all of our stockists and of course everyone who has tweeted us, facebooked us, emailed us or bought one of our products. It gives us the biggest smile every time we drive around the town and see a car with one of our window stickers shining through the rear view window.

 

We aim to use local suppliers, over 60% of our goods are manufactured within the Vale, a further 10% in Wales and the rest within the UK. Where possible, we always try and shop local.
